Emailing BG Computers
You can email BG Computers at: [email protected] or using the ‘contact’ form on our website. Both fall under the same privacy policy.
If you, the data subject, contact BG Computers, the details you submit are automatically stored. The data that you include in your message is submitted on a voluntary basis, but you are advised not to include any data that is personal or sensitive. Emails are stored by BG Computers for a maximum of two years; these are important for our client records. If at any time you wish for your correspondence to be deleted immediately, you must contact us expressing this. No data in emails is directly passed onto third parties, however information relating to the repair may need to be shared (e.g. the order of components.)
Our Records
Should you decide to use our services, we need to collect details of the nature of your repair, your name, email address and the date the repair was carried out. These details are kept securely and are not shared with any other organisation. By collecting this information, we can more effectively assist returning customers. This information is retained for a maximum of two years.
Your computer at BG Computers
For many of our services at BG Computers, we require access to your computer’s software. This allows us to test components, fix software issues or carry out a data transfer. While working on your computer, none of your personal files will be opened or copied without your consent. By passing over your computer for repair, you agree that BG computers may need access to your software files, dependant on the repair that is required.
When carrying out a data transfer (e.g. from one computer to another) BG Computers, the data controller, ensures that your data remains private. When transferring data, an intermediary hard drive is used to facilitate this. No files will be opened or looked at.
After the data transfer has completed, a copy will be retained for a maximum of two weeks on the intermediary hard drive, if requested by the customer. This allows time for you to check that all files have been transferred successfully. If files are missing after the data transfer, please get in touch no later than two weeks, and we should be able to help. After two weeks, the intermediary hard drive will be wiped, using secure hard drive erasure software.
By allowing us, the data controller, to carry out a data transfer, you consent to this process taking place. In the case that any highly sensitive files are present on the computer, it is advised that you carry out the data transfer yourself. In any case, the process can be overseen by you should this be of concern.
Right to rectification
You, the data subject, have the right to contact BG Computers, the controller, in order to have your data corrected or altered. For example, if your contact email changes, you have the right to get in touch (at [email protected]) and ask us to change our records.
Right to erasure
You, the data subject, have the right to contact BG Computers, the controller, and request that your personal data be erased from our systems. In this case, please get in touch at [email protected] and request that your data be erased.
Terms of Service
Repair Quote
Upon delivery of your computer, a quote for your repair will be given. This quote will be accurate to the best of our knowledge. However, occasionally additional problems may arise during the repair, for example an additional failed hardware component. If repair costs increase above a threshold of £10, you will be contacted before the repair continues.
An estimated time frame for the repair will be given upon receiving the computer. Due to delayed deliveries or unexpected problems that may arise, this time frame may alter. If this occurs, you, the client, will be contacted at the first possible opportunity.
“No Fix, No Fee”
Once a repair has been agreed upon, during the repair quotation stage, BG Computers is obliged to carry out the repair if a fee is to be charged. If the repair cannot take place, no fee will be charged to the client. For example, the computer may be deemed beyond economical repair.
This policy does not apply should the repair be completed in part. For example, if only one component is replaced when the client wanted other hardware installed. If the repair is completed in part, and not fully completed, a reduced charge will be agreed.
Repair Terms
Currently, no collection is available – all computers must be taken to Blofield Heath.
As I’m still a student, all repairs will take place during evenings or weekends during term time. No parts are kept in stock; however, most can be delivered next day. An estimate for the time your computer will be in for repair will be provided.
I reserve the right to turn down a repair, should I deem it too time consuming or difficult. For example, motherboard soldering and post-2012 iMac repairs are not accepted. In which case, I’ll provide you with the best course of action to take.
Warranty on Repairs
When you collect your computer after the repair has taken place, it will be shown to you in working condition. It is your responsibility to check that you are happy with the repair before you pay.
No warranty is offered with any computer repairs unless explicitly stated upon payment.
However, warranty may be offered on any hardware that has been installed in your computer, if it has been purchased new. In the case that hardware installed by BG Computers fails, please get in touch. If it’s under the manufacturer’s warranty, we will contact the manufacturer for a replacement part. Depending on the type of repair, you may have to pay labour charges.
Warranty on Sales
A 1-month warranty and dated receipt are issued on purchase (not applicable to eBay sales.) The warranty only includes hardware faults. Any hardware modifications made by the buyer will void the warranty.
Payment
Payment can be made by PayPal or cash. For some repairs, which require expensive hardware to be purchased by BG Computers, you may be required to pay for the hardware up-front, before the repair takes place. The labour charges can be paid after the repair has been completed.
A receipt will be given upon payment, a copy of which will be kept for our records.
